Summary

The Certificate in English I is a course designed to hone a student’s English Language skills and gear their linguistic expertise towards taking the diplomas offered at The Songwriter Music College (TSMC).

The course comprises modules that build the student’s English listening, reading, writing, speaking, grammar, and vocabulary skills needed for the academic & music-related purposes of TSMC’s diploma offerings. Through the course, students will be able to apply what they have learnt through classroom activities and assessments. 

Upon graduation of Certificate in English I, students would be able to progress to Certificate in English II. Completion of this course would be an English level equivalent to IELTS 4.0 or CEFR B1. 

This course covers 2 main components:

  1. IELTS Core Skills
  2. Music Diploma English Language Foundation

These components will be taught in-person through a variety of methods.

Duration:

Full-time (in-person lessons), 5 days x 6 hours per day (3 months)

Course Commencement and Completion Dates

Course Commencement is on a termly basis starting on January, April, July and October of every year. Exact dates will defer from year to year.

Course Completion is every 3 months from commencement, March, June, September and December of every year.

Graduation and Assessment

  • Graduation Requirement: Pass in the end-of-term assessment
  • Assessment Modes: Continuous assessment and end-of-term exam.
    Continuous assessments include case studies, class tests, discussions, presentations, group, and individual assignments.

Entry Requirements:

  • Minimum age: 15 years old (as at year of enrolment)
  • Minimum academic requirement: completed middle school education or equivalent
  • Minimum language requirement: IELTS 3.0 or CEFR A2 or pass in TSMC’s English entrance assessment

Fees

  • Application Fee:
    • SGD300.00 (one-time payment)
  • Tuition Fees:
    • Approximately SGD3,300.00 (excluding GST, assessment and miscellaneous fees)
