BEFORE APPLYING
There is a minimum age requirement of 16 years old. There is no maximum age limit.
- 16 years old and above
- Minimum attainment of GCE O Level (or equivalent)*
- A pass in College’s Assessment conducted by the Principal or Academic Board Member
*Note: Applicants who do not meet the academic requirements (GCE O Level or equivalent) are required to complete the 12-hour Certificate in Contemporary Music Fundamentals course (includes submitting a music assignment) BEFORE they can apply for any of our Diploma Courses.

The Songwriter Music College (TSMC) offers 1-year full-time and 2-year part-time courses. For full-time studies, it will be 3-4 modules per term. For part-time studies, it will be 1-2 modules per term. The basket of modules per term is fixed.
Our full-time classes will be conducted during the daytime. Our part-time classes will be conducted in the evenings from 7-10pm, usually once or twice a week. On rare occasions or due to unforeseen circumstances, classes may be held on Saturday mornings.

The Diploma in Songwriting and Music Performance focuses more on developing students who want to build a career as a singer-songwriter, the Diploma in Songwriting and Music Production focuses on technical skills required by a modern day producer-songwriter, while Diploma in Sound Engineering and Digital Media focuses on technical skills required to be a sound engineer in the creative industry.
APPLYING FOR THE PROGRAMME
Yes! But you will be required to complete our Certificate in Contemporary Music Fundamentals which is prepared for anyone with little or no music background (no formal music certification or any prior experience in performance or recording music). This certification course will provide the relevant skills to help you along your musical journey. It introduces the basics of melody composing, music theory, music arrangement, recording and mixing techniques in today’s contemporary music. In-person auditions are NOT required for TSMC. However, there will be an assessment where you have to send in the following supporting documents together with your application:
- Highest academic certificate and transcript
- Passport-size photo (a digital copy is recommended)
- Formal music certifications (e.g. ABRSM, Trinity, LCM, Rockschool), if any.
- Three samples works

We believe education should never be hindered by financial reasons and hence we have various ways to aid students. School fees are collected via instalments (every two months), which means that you need not pay the entire fee at one go.
Students may also take up the DBS/POSB Study Assist loan. For more details, click here

Under our Class Attendance Policy, a minimum of 75% attendance is required to attain the diploma certification. Any deviation from this requirement is subject to the approval of the Academic Board. If you do miss lessons, feel free to approach our lecturers for guidance.
QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
All three diploma specialisations will require you to take up core modules, which are key fundamentals in the music industry. These modules include Melody Writing, Studio Techniques, Music Business and Marketing Essentials and more.
Other than the Core Modules, you will also be required to take up modules under your specialisation. Modules in the Diploma in Songwriting and Music Performance focuses more on developing students who want to build a career as a singer-songwriter, while the Diploma in Songwriting and Music Production focuses on technical skills required by a modern day producer.

Yes! The Songwriter Music College is dedicated to our students’ success regarding learning and music career opportunities. Our lecturers and mentors are current practitioners with vast industry experiences, enabling them to provide and share insights and industry expectations with the students.
Mentors will be able to understand our students’ strengths and weaknesses through close working relationships and guide them to improve their skills and knowledge in order to excel in their music journey.

The schedule will be based on the number of modules you need to attend each term. For full-time studies, it will mainly be about 3-4 modules. For part-time studies, it will be 1-2 modules per term. Our courses are conducted in English.
No. Even though our founders are active in the Asian Pop scene, the concepts taught by our lecturers are relevant regardless of language or market territory. Furthermore, we have students from diverse musical backgrounds, race, cultures and nationalities.
There are no written exams but there are assignments that are graded which will contribute to your final grade point average (GPA).
In order to get the full learning experience, we recommend students to have at least a Macbook or a Windows Laptop in order to access the required programs and software for the course.
To be awarded the Diploma, you need to fulfil all of the following requirements:
- All fees paid in full
- Meet the minimum attendance requirement for all modules
- Pass all required modules and final year project

Our programmes are registered with the Committee for Private Education (CPE). TSMC is also in the process of securing EduTrust, which is a quality assurance scheme which distinguishes private schools that consistently maintain a high standard of quality in the overall provision of education services.
Definitely. There are a few of our modules that touch on copyrights and royalties which is essential knowledge to any practitioner in the music industry
Definitely. Students from our all our diploma courses are highly encouraged to compose and produce their own music regularly through collaboration with their like-minded classmates.
Our Diploma in Songwriting and Music Performance includes certain modules including SS013 Vocal Science and Singing Technique which is designed to help students improve their vocal ability as well as topics such as showmanship.
AFTER THE PROGRAMME
As TSMC’s lecturers are current and active practitioners, students will be able to acquire up-to-date, ‘real’ business knowledge in this course. Students will be given opportunities to build their portfolio through events and experiences.
Under the arm of Funkie Monkies Music, which covers music production, music publishing, as well as housing an artist management and A&R arm, students would have the opportunity to potentially work with the Funkie Monkies team to kick-start their career in Music.
Having mm2 Asia as our strategic partner allows us to send our students for auditions and provide them with a platform to showcase their talents. Students will be exposed to industry needs and understand the demands through projects and collaborations.

Definitely. There are modules related to music business and marketing that will cover essential topics that will help with the set-up and running of an independent record label.
